Not all who wander are lost, but Kona's Sutra is built to take you farther than a Garmin battery and to places fueled by imagination. So leave the GPS at home, grab an actual map and ride till you disappear off the edge of the page. That’s when the adventure truly begins. Kona's efficient, great-handling and smooth-riding chromoly frameset gets up to speed with ease and glides over even the roughest roads. This versatile machine rolls on a quality wheelset with WTB rims, Shimano Deore hubs, stainless steel spokes and mileage-consuming Clement tires. It also boasts excellent components, including powerful Hayes disc brakes for all-weather braking excellence, and a wide-range 27-speed Shimano drivetrain so that you have the right gearing for any terrain and any load. You'll appreciate the supportive, tried-and-true Brooks B17 leather saddle as you pedal over the horizon to parts unknown. The Sutra comes with a rear rack so you can load the bike up and still enjoy a stable and predictable ride and a pair of full fenders to protect you and your cargo.

1st the team at Mountain road cycle are great. Support your local bike shop! Now the bike, I did 224 miles in 4 days on the GAP trail fully loaded with camping gear and supplies. The Kona Sutra performed perfectly. Smooth and fun to ride on a trail or road. The steel frame (lifetime warranty!) absorbs the bumps and the 35c tires handle a wide range of surfaces (the bike can do up to 40c). Disk brakes and Brooks saddle are awesome. Comes ready to tour. Kona nailed this one.
I do a lot of road cycling. This bike, properly fitted for you, will be comfortable for many long distance rides. I like everything about the bike, except for a couple things. Toe overlap, was an issue right off the bat, so I removed the front fender, and reused it on another bike, that it fits. The front pannier rack was not mounted correctly, which I was able to correct by looking at the picture and remounting it properly. Because of the weldment plate addition to the front rack, it is not compatible with Arkel Cam lock system bags. I also think that because of the disc brakes and clearance issues, it is not possible to mount the front rack low enough. I may end up just removing it altogether and going with a small porteur style rack. With the side pull brake mounts already attached to the front forks, there are lots of options to get a better front rack. The rear rack, is outstanding. Absolutely love it and the way its mounted. Arkel cam lock bags work great on the rear rack. The front fender on the 2012 Sutra was just not long enough, but that appears to be remedied on the 2013 models. That's why I didn't give a second thought to removing it. An extra long hammered aluminum front fender will probably be what I go with on this bike.
